„Art and Typography“:
On Beauty, Ugliness, Not Only in Typography

The King of Cape Arcona, Thomas Schostok aka {ths} will hold a speech about typography, design and art. To him the classical borders that are drawn between commercial and non-commercial art are blurred. The three disciplines are strongly influencing each other, so that one couldn’t exist without the other. Whatever {ths} is working on, he is looking for the beauty of imperfection. Every typeface and every design needs a certain amount of ugliness to become interesting and beautiful in a deeper and more touching way than superficial beauty could be.

A new year, a new typeface. This time we have something very special for you. Our President of Cape Arcona, Mr. Stefan Claudius made this wonderful text typeface: CA Normal.

CA Normal merges influences from European grotesques and American Gothics, breeding an experimental mongrel. The underlying concept stays in the background, giving the design a great self-evidence. Although it is doubtful if there can be such thing as neutrality, CA Normal comes pretty close to what people mean when speaking of a neutral font. Nevertheless it’s not faceless, anonymous or confound able. It’s just that the charm comes from subtle details rather than obvious design features. CA Normal comes in 15 fonts with 5 weights and 3 styles and featuring small caps, ligatures, oldstyle and lining figures.

CA Cula Superfat

Oh yes, fonts, CA Cula Superfat is the new (fat) baby in town and it really makes us very hungry.
Taken from the upcoming CA Cula family, CA Cula Superfat is a display typeface meant for use in extremely large sizes—but hey it’s up to you to use it in any size you want. A central European character set, loads of ligatures, oldstyle and lining figures is what makes it so lovely – plus the attribute: “made with love from lovers”.

After decades of research, the Cape Arcona Font Research Department has finally found out what people really need: they need superfat fonts. In order to accomplish this need we are starting a new series of fonts. They will all be superfat weights for existing or upcoming font families and be sold separately.
The first one is CA Gothique Superfat. The name says it all. It is aesthetically located between American Gothics and European Grotesques, with small caps and useful OpenType features, like oldstyle and lining figures, proportional and tabular numerals. Watch out for the whole font family coming soon to this place. And in the meantime, buy CA Gothique Superfat.
